Andalusian Workers Represent 75% of Spanish Harvest Labour in France
The French grape‑harvest (vendange) campaign is set to employ about 14,500 Spanish seasonal workers this year. Union data indicate that roughly 75% of them – around 10,800 people – originate from Andalusia. The provinces of Granada and Jaén together account for more than 53% of the Andalusian departures, roughly 8,000 workers, with additional migrants coming from the northern hills of Córdoba and Cádiz, southern Sevilla, and the Tebas area of Málaga.
CCOO (Comisiones Obreras) notes that the net hourly wage in France is €9.74, yielding monthly earnings of between €1,900 and €2,337 when overtime and weekend premiums are included. The union praises the French conditions as more favorable than those in Spain, helping workers accumulate the days needed for the agrarian subsidy. At the same time, CCOO warns of possible abusive hiring practices and says it will monitor compliance with collective agreements to protect workers' rights. Production in France is expected to be lower than in previous seasons, which may reduce overall demand for labour.
