Andaman and Nicobar Command Chief visits strategic islands
Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), conducted an operational visit to several remote locations within the Andaman archipelago, including Landfall Island, East Island, and the naval air station INS Kohassa.
The visit focused on assessing operational readiness, reviewing capability enhancement initiatives, and evaluating logistical sustenance measures. Landfall Island holds significant strategic importance due to its proximity to Myanmar’s Great Coco Island, located just 35 km away. While Myanmar has denied reports of a Chinese military presence on Great Coco Island, the area is subject to ongoing monitoring due to allegations of a Chinese-operated air base.
INS Kohassa, situated at Diglipur on North Andaman Island, serves as a critical strategic asset for conducting surveillance and anti-poaching operations in the region.
