Andaman and Nicobar Command Highlights Amphibious Operations Potential to Indian Army Officers

The Army Component Commander of India’s sole tri‑service formation, the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), briefed student officers of the Indian Army War College in Mhow on the conduct and strategic value of amphibious operations. He emphasized the archipelago’s 836 islands – only 31 inhabited – as an ideal training ground, noting the routine use of landing crafts to deploy Army troops with Navy support and Air Force air cover.

The briefing referenced historic amphibious assaults such as the 1950 Inchon Landing, outlined various operation types from simple beach assaults to full‑scale raids, and discussed training requirements and the role of large Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) that can carry troops, armour and helicopters.
