Andaman and Nicobar MP seeks local Teacher Eligibility Tests

Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has requested the administration to explore the feasibility of conducting the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) locally through the State Institute of Education (SIE).

Following Supreme Court directions, in-service teachers must obtain TET qualification by August 2028. Currently, teachers in the islands rely heavily on the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by the CBSE. However, limited examination intervals and center availability present significant challenges for local educators. Ray noted that other states, such as Uttar Pradesh, have successfully utilized authorized examining bodies to provide more frequent opportunities, and suggested that the SIE could serve a similar purpose to improve accessibility for teachers in remote areas.
