Andaman Islands police apprehend absconding life convict
Police in the Andaman Islands have successfully located and apprehended Arun Pandian, a 33-year-old life convict who absconded after his parole expired. Pandian, a resident of Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, was serving a life sentence for a 2017 murder case registered at the Kenikkarai police station.
Following an order from the Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), Pandian was granted 21 days of parole in September 2026. He failed to surrender to Madurai Central Prison on October 2, 2026, prompting the registration of a case under Section 262 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After receiving intelligence from the Tamil Nadu Police, the Aberdeen Police Station in South Andaman initiated a search in the Garacharma area of Sri Vijaya Puram. The convict was traced and subsequently handed over to Tamil Nadu authorities. He has been returned to Madurai Central Prison, and further legal action is being taken regarding his failure to surrender.
