Andaman MP seeks intervention over poor National Highway conditions
Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has requested urgent intervention from Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari regarding the deteriorating state of the National Highway stretch from Kadamtala to Diglipur in North & Middle Andaman.
Ray reported that large potholes and damaged sections have made parts of the highway unsafe and virtually unfit for vehicular movement, causing significant hardship for commuters, students, and patients. He called on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to perform immediate maintenance to ensure the road remains motorable while permanent works are completed.
The MP also requested a review meeting with NHIDCL officials and contractors to address construction delays and poor maintenance. He emphasized that the Baratang Creek Bridge and other pending works must meet the December 2026 completion target, urging better coordination to resolve issues related to utility shifting and material availability.
