Andaman & Nicobar Police recognized for cybercrime performance
The Andaman & Nicobar Police has received national recognition for outstanding performance in cybercrime management. This assessment was conducted under the State/UTs Performance Matrix for the period between January 1 and August 20, 2026, and was reviewed during the 52nd PRAGATI meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of India.
The police force demonstrated excellence across several key areas, including cybercrime prevention, investigation, victim assistance, and inter-agency coordination. Notable initiatives contributing to this performance include the establishment of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cybercrime Coordination Centre (ANI4C), the implementation of the e-Zero FIR mechanism, and the use of platforms such as the Grievance Redressal Module and Money Restoration Module.
To improve responses to financial fraud, the police have adopted a victim-centric approach by lowering the threshold for FIR registration. The minimum loss required to register an FIR for cyber financial fraud has been reduced from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000, allowing more victims to access legal and investigative assistance.
