Andean and Mapuche cultural heritage showcased in Bolivia and Chile

In La Paz, Bolivia, the exhibition ‘Surcar Los Andes’ features works from nineteen artists from Arica, Chile. Organized by the Mesa de Artistas Plásticos de Arica (M.A.V.A.) and the Casa de la Cultura Alfredo Raiteri Cortéz, the showcase includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, engraving, and collage. The exhibition aims to foster cultural exchange and explore shared Andean identity, territory, and memory through various mediums.

In Chile, traditional Mapuche weaver Alex Aarón Antihuen Compayante is launching an itinerant exhibition titled ‘Txariwe: Memoria viva del tejido ancestral’ across the Los Ríos Region, including Lanco, Mariquina, and Valdivia. Supported by CONADI, the project features museum-quality replicas of traditional belts (txariwes) made using raw sheep wool and 100% natural dyes. The initiative seeks to preserve the ceremonial and iconographic significance of Mapuche textile wisdom.
