Andean condor recorded in La Pampa and conservation efforts continue
The Andean condor, one of the world’s largest flying birds, has been the subject of significant conservation efforts and a rare sighting in Argentina. In La Pampa, the species was documented for the first time in the province at the Cerro Negro Provincial Reserve. The sighting, captured in photographs by nature photographer Jorge Gracia, was announced by the Secretariat of Environment and Climate Change. Because the condor is typically associated with mountain environments along the Andes, its presence in the Pampean territory provides valuable data for monitoring local biodiversity.
In Chile, veterinarian and scientist Eduardo Pavez continues his long-term work through the Centro de Rehabilitación de Aves Rapaces (CRAR), which he founded in 1990. For over three decades, Pavez has focused on the rehabilitation and reintroduction of raptors, including condors, back into their natural habitats. His work aims to support the survival of the species, which is categorized as vulnerable in Argentina.
