Andean women march to Buenos Aires against land dispossession

A group of Andean women, known as the Caminata de las Warmis, is traveling from Jujuy to Buenos Aires to protest land dispossession and environmental degradation caused by extractivism. The march began on August 3 from Pozo Rinconada in the Puna region and has passed through Córdoba and Rosario.

Participants are denouncing the impact of mining activities in the Jujuy province, specifically citing the contamination of the Pozuelo Lagoon, an international biosphere reserve. They also highlighted lead contamination in the town of Abra Pampa linked to the Pan de Azúcar mine. The group intends to present a petition to President Javier Milei, national deputies, and the National Institute of Indigenous Affairs (INAI) to address these territorial and environmental grievances.
