Anderlecht and Albina implement new cleanliness and urban development measures

In Anderlecht, Belgium, the municipal council addressed concerns regarding public cleanliness and street sweeping in the Kuregem district. Following a citizen interpellation, local representatives highlighted issues such as staff shortages, outdated equipment, and high absenteeism among street cleaners. Achille Junior Vandyck, the Alderman for Public Cleanliness, noted that the department lost approximately 30 full-time equivalents due to budget cuts and federal reforms affecting specific employment regulations.

In Albina, Suriname, new infrastructure and waste management initiatives have been launched to revitalize the Kaplerstraat waterfront. Through a public-private partnership, ten new entrepreneurial units were constructed to improve the urban landscape and support local businesses. To address high costs associated with river-borne waste, the district commissioner introduced a mandatory red trash bag system. Residents and businesses must transition to these bags by November to ensure waste collection services.
