Anderlecht and Hammarby draw 1‑1 in Stockholm as Saliba's red card fuels controversy
Anderlecht opened the Europa League second‑preliminary‑round first leg in Stockholm with a early free‑kick goal by Danylo Sikan (5'). The Belgian side later lost midfielder Nathan Saliba to a second yellow card in the 78th minute, a decision that sparked heated debate. Hammarby equalised through Frank Junior Adjei in the 89th minute, securing a 1‑1 draw.
New Anderlecht coach Vítor Bruno said he was “especially disappointed” that the team could not hold onto the lead despite playing with ten men, but praised the squad’s energy and mental strength. Former player Gilles De Bilde argued the second yellow was unwarranted, stating there was “actually nothing happening” and that Saliba’s opponent chose to fall.
The match also highlighted squad selections, with coach Bruno noting several players – Mario Stroeykens, Tristan Degreefen and Adriano Bertaccini – remained on the bench, sending signals that they must improve to earn minutes.
