Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project Secures $1.88B Contract in California

A joint venture of FlatironDragados and Sukut has been awarded a $1.88 billion contract by the Santa Clara Valley Water District to rebuild the Anderson Dam in Santa Clara County. The project, part of a larger $2.8 billion seismic retrofit effort, will reconstruct most of the dam and its spillway, install new outlet pipes, and implement other safety upgrades. Construction is slated to begin in 2027 and is expected to take seven years.

The 1950‑built Anderson Dam, which holds the region’s largest reservoir, has been limited to about 3 % capacity because of seismic concerns. A 2017 overflow contributed to widespread flooding in the San Jose area, underscoring the urgency of the upgrades. Valley Water officials say rebuilding the dam is a top priority to protect public safety and restore water storage capabilities.
