Andes Iron withdraws Supreme Court appeals for Dominga project
Andes Iron, the company behind the controversial Dominga mining-port project in Chile, has withdrawn its legal appeals (casación and queja) before the Supreme Court. This decision follows a February ruling by the Antofagasta Court of Appeals that upheld the project's rejection by the Committee of Ministers.
The company stated that withdrawing these resources is intended to unblock administrative invalidation requests filed by social organizations against the January 2025 ministerial resolution. Andes Iron noted that the Supreme Court proceedings had frozen the progress of these invalidation requests.
Local communities and fishing organizations in the Coquimbo Region, including the La Higuera Fishermen's Federation, have welcomed the move, viewing it as a sign of respect that allows institutional reviews to proceed. However, Greenpeace has urged the Executive branch to respect the project's rejection, noting that the company's withdrawal effectively leaves the court's rejection in place. Greenpeace also highlighted an ongoing criminal investigation into potential corruption and irregularities related to the project's processing.
