Andhra Medical College reports two postgraduate student deaths in five days

Two postgraduate medical students at Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam were found dead in separate incidents within a five-day period in late September.

The first incident occurred on September 24, involving a final-year MD General Medicine student who was found hanging at her residence in Ramnagar. Her family reported that examination-related stress may have been a contributing factor. Police have registered a case and are investigating.

The second incident occurred on September 28, involving a first-year ENT postgraduate student. She was found dead at her rented accommodation, leaving behind a note stating that no one should be held responsible. The college principal, Dr KVSM Sandhya Devi, noted that the student had previously expressed a lack of interest in her course and had submitted a letter stating she did not wish to continue her studies. The principal stated that the student had not reported any specific personal or academic problems to the administration prior to her death.

Local police and the Medical Education Department have initiated inquiries into both deaths.
