Andhra Pradesh announces mayoral reservations for 17 municipal corporations

The Andhra Pradesh government has finalized reservations for mayoral posts across 17 municipal corporations ahead of upcoming local body elections. According to orders issued by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, the distribution includes posts reserved for women in the general category, Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

In major cities, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Ongole, and Nellore will have unreserved mayoral posts. Visakhapatnam and Guntur have been designated as general-category woman reservations. Other specific allocations include ST for Mangalagiri-Tadepalli, SC for Rajamahendravaram and Kurnool, and various BC and general-category woman posts for cities such as Kakinada, Eluru, and Kadapa.

The reservation of the Kadapa mayoral post for general-category women has intensified political competition between the NDA alliance and the YSRCP. In Kadapa, internal discussions are underway within the TDP regarding candidate selection, while the YSRCP seeks to retain its previous influence in the corporation.
