Andhra Pradesh drought crisis blamed on government negligence by YS Jagan
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the current administration led by Chandrababu Naidu of negligence regarding a severe drought crisis in the state.
During a video conference with party leaders, Jagan reported that the state has experienced a rainfall deficit of over 51 per cent since the start of the Kharif season. He noted that approximately 628 of the 688 mandals are facing drought-like conditions, with 332 experiencing severe drought. This deficit has significantly impacted agriculture, with nearly 20 lakh acres remaining unsown compared to the normal cultivation area of 76 lakh acres.
Jagan criticized the government for failing to declare drought-hit mandals, provide alternative seeds, or supply fodder. He also alleged that water from Srisailam is being prioritized for power generation rather than being supplied to the Rayalaseema region. The YSRCP leadership is coordinating district-level activities to support farmers facing crop losses in red gram, cotton, groundnut, maize, and paddy.
