Andhra Pradesh faces flood threats and sanitation issues amid heavy rains
Heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh has triggered flood threats in the Godavari districts and sanitation challenges in Vijayawada. In the Godavari region, officials are on high alert as water from the Sabari and other upper catchments is expected to reach the river within 48 hours, potentially increasing flood levels. Authorities in Polavaram district have identified 17 relief centers across 22 villages and prepared rescue teams, boats, and medical supplies for vulnerable areas.
In Rajamahendravaram, incessant rain has caused waterlogging in low-lying areas, disrupted power supplies, and downed trees. Meanwhile, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is managing sewage and sanitation issues following the rains. A technical problem at a pumping station has necessitated a temporary shutdown, leading to potential sewage backflow in several residential areas, including Veterinary Colony and NTR Colony. The VMC has deployed gully pits as a precaution and is conducting silt removal to prevent waterlogging and mosquito breeding.
