Andhra Pradesh fishermen return home after 25 days missing at sea
Seven fishermen from the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh have returned home safely after being missing at sea for 25 days. The group originally set sail on August 3 from the Odalrevu fish landing point in search of tuna.
Contact with the fishermen was lost on August 7 after their mechanized boat experienced a technical engine failure. Following their failure to return on the scheduled date of August 12, authorities launched an extensive search operation in the Bay of Bengal. The rescue effort involved coordination between the Indian Coast Guard, the Indian Navy, and other government departments, including the deployment of 15 Coast Guard vessels and four helicopters.
On Wednesday, local fishermen near the Shankarpur fishing harbour off the West Bengal coast discovered the boat. The missing men, identified as Kopanathi Ramakrishna, Kollati Yesudasu, Palepu Santa Rao, Kollati Srinubabu, Karri Rambabu, Sangani Tatarao, and Kataadi Satish Kumar, were able to confirm their safety via a mobile phone provided by local fishermen. They reported surviving without food for more than three days while stranded at sea.
