Vijayawada electric car crash kills four people
Four people, including a three-year-old child, were killed after an electric vehicle (EV) caught fire following a collision with a road divider on the Vijayawada West Bypass in Andhra Pradesh on Monday evening.
The victims have been identified as 39-year-old Komareddy Ramdev, his 65-year-old mother Komareddy Aruna, 30-year-old Tiguru Vijaya, and a child. The occupants were reportedly returning from a function in Namburu village in the Guntur district when the accident occurred around 6:00 PM.
Following the impact with the divider, flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle, trapping the occupants inside. One additional passenger sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh expressed condolences and instructed officials to ensure the injured person receives necessary medical care.
Police and fire services arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze, but the car was completely destroyed. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash and the subsequent fire, including whether battery failure or high speed played a role.
