Andhra Pradesh government faces backlash over tribal school relocation

Political tensions have escalated in Andhra Pradesh following the coalition government's decision to convert the Marikavalasa Tribal Welfare Residential School in Visakhapatnam into a Centre of Excellence in partnership with a private coaching institute. The move resulted in the mid-year relocation of hundreds of tribal students, prompting protests from parents, student organizations, and tribal groups.

YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has condemned the decision and the subsequent police action, which included the house arrest of opposition leaders such as former Deputy Chief Minister Pushpa Sreevani. Jagan questioned the rationale behind shifting the school and criticized the government for suppressing democratic dissent and failing to address the concerns of protesting families.
