Andhra Pradesh Suspends Former Andhra University Vice-Chancellor and Dissolves Governing Bodies of 18 Universities

The Andhra Pradesh government suspended former Andhra University Vice‑Chancellor Prof. P. V. G. D. Prasad Reddy hours before his retirement, citing investigations that uncovered alleged misuse of nearly Rs 20 crore of central funds, procedural violations, and political activities linked to the ruling YSRCP. The suspension aims to allow ongoing vigilance inquiries to proceed without interference.

In a related move, the state Higher Education Department dissolved the executive councils of 18 universities, removing all nominated members appointed under the previous administration. New governing bodies have been appointed for Andhra University, Nagarjuna University and Padmavati University, while fresh councils are expected for the remaining institutions. Officials said the restructuring is intended to strengthen leadership and oversight in higher education across Andhra Pradesh.
