Andhra Pradesh greenfield ports on track for 2026 completion

The Andhra Pradesh government is accelerating the development of three major greenfield ports—Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, and Machilipatnam—with a target completion date of December 2026. These projects aim to strengthen the state’s maritime infrastructure and establish its coastline as a significant logistics gateway on India’s east coast.

Infrastructure and Investments Minister B. C. Janardhan Reddy stated that the projects are being developed using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He clarified that the state is not privatizing ports or selling government assets; instead, private firms will operate and maintain the projects under strict contracts while the government retains ownership of land, coastal rights, and policy control. Under the Ramayapatnam Port agreement, the private operator will pay an upfront premium of ₹1,500 crore and share revenue with the government, which will increase over time.

Physical progress for the sites is currently reported at approximately 78.5% for Ramayapatnam, 75.5% for Mulapeta, and 57.8% for Machilipatnam. To support these developments, the state has approved ₹1,638.52 crore for land acquisition for second-phase expansions. The initiative includes integrated road and rail connectivity to link the ports with regional industrial and mineral-producing corridors.
