Andhra Pradesh heavy rains and thunderstorms cause two deaths

Two people died in the Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh following heavy rains and thunderstorms triggered by a low-pressure area. The deceased, identified as 63-year-old Nagamma and 60-year-old Mekala Venkayamma, are suspected to have suffered cardiac arrest after hearing loud thunder in Petlurivaripalem and Lakshmipuram villages.

Heavy rainfall has also affected Visakhapatnam, Gajuwaka, and parts of East Godavari, with flooding reported at the Nidadavole bus stand. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) reported that the low-pressure system, currently centered over the Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh regions, is expected to move west-northwest, potentially bringing more moderate to heavy rain to isolated parts of the state.

Authorities have issued warnings for gusty winds of 40-60 kmph along the North Andhra coast and advised fishermen to stay ashore. State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has instructed officials to remain on alert and directed the prevention of vehicle movement in vulnerable areas. APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain advised citizens to avoid standing under trees or hoardings and to refrain from crossing overflowing streams or canals during lightning activity.
