Andhra Pradesh launches 3 lakh house project and 3D printing pilot

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have launched a major housing initiative in the state. They laid the foundation for 3 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 at Burripalem in the Tenali constituency.

The state government aims to achieve 100 per cent housing coverage by 2029. While the initial regular quota was 75,000 houses, the Union Government has sanctioned 3 lakh houses following a special request. Officials indicated that an additional 3 lakh houses could be sanctioned upon completion of this phase, with another 3 lakh planned for next year, potentially totaling 9 lakh houses.

As part of the initiative, a pilot project is being implemented to use 3D concrete printing technology to construct 177 houses in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem. This project, a collaboration between the Union Ministry of Rural Development, CSIR-CBRI, and the Andhra Pradesh government, aims to reduce construction time, labor requirements, and waste. If successful, the state plans to expand this technology to approximately 5,000 houses.
