Andhra Pradesh on high alert as cyclone triggers heavy rains

A severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal has triggered heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts in Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone was expected to make landfall between Srikakulam and Kaviti with wind speeds reaching up to 85 kmph.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held high-level meetings to assess the situation, directing district collectors to prioritize public safety and monitor river flows to regulate reservoir water storage. Authorities have warned of potential flash floods in streams and rivulets, particularly in the north coastal and Godavari catchment areas.

The Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) has been placed on high alert. The RTGS Command Control Centre is working with the AWARE wing to track weather patterns, rainfall, and wind conditions in real time. Alerts and advisories are being disseminated to citizens via mobile phones, while information is being shared with district authorities and field-level officials to ensure timely preventive responses.
