Andhra Pradesh reinstates IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni
The Andhra Pradesh government has revoked the suspension of senior IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni, reinstating them into service with immediate effect. The decision follows representations made by the officers and reports submitted by the Director General of Police.
The officers were originally suspended in September 2024 in connection with the alleged wrongful arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actor and model Kadambari Jethwani. The controversy stems from a February 2024 incident where police traveled to Mumbai to arrest Jethwani and her family following a complaint involving allegations of forgery, cheating, and extortion. An inquiry suggested that preparations for the arrest may have begun before the formal FIR was registered.
While the suspension has been lifted, the government noted that the revocation is without prejudice to ongoing disciplinary and criminal proceedings. Former Intelligence chief P. S. R. Anjaneyulu, also involved in the case, retired from service last month.
