Andhra Pradesh to reconstitute 28 Zilla Praja Parishads

The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered the reconstitution of 28 Zilla Praja Parishads (ZPPs) to align with the state’s current 28-district administrative structure. This reorganization will replace the existing 13 ZPPs effective September 25, 2026, following the expiration of the current elected bodies' terms on September 24.

As part of this transition, the combined Chittoor Zilla Parishad will be split into three separate entities for the Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts. This restructuring will increase the number of available political positions, providing each new ZP with its own chairperson and two vice-chairpersons. The split will also redistribute ZPTC electoral seats, increasing the total from 65 to 87 across the three districts.

The administrative overhaul involves the division of assets, records, staff, and liabilities. Each new Zilla Parishad will operate with its own dedicated administrative setup, including a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Deputy CEO. This move aims to facilitate more effective local self-governance in line with the district reorganizations initiated in 2022 and updated in late 2025.
