Andhra Pradesh unveils ₹657-crore poultry development policy
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the AP Poultry Development Policy 2026–29, which includes a ₹657-crore financial package designed to strengthen the poultry sector. The initiative aims to promote modern technology, attract investment, increase productivity, and improve employment opportunities for farmers.
The funding allocation includes ₹209 crore for food-processing incentives, ₹152.18 crore for industrial components, and ₹296 crore for poultry development programs managed by the Animal Husbandry department. To support infrastructure, the government will provide a 4% interest subsidy on loans for poultry farms and hatcheries, with ₹72 crore earmarked for this purpose over three years.
Additional measures include capital subsidies of up to 25% (capped at ₹25 lakh) for new environment-controlled (EC) poultry sheds and up to ₹20 lakh for modernizing existing sheds. The policy also features electricity tariff rationalization and subsidies for eligible EC poultry farms. Furthermore, the government plans to focus on backyard poultry to generate income for rural women, aiming to establish approximately 2,720 mother poultry farms annually through women’s Self-Help Groups.
