Albania and North Macedonia engage in trade and diplomatic shifts
Albania is reviewing its trade relations with Brazil following food safety concerns. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla announced that new European listing regulations for poultry and livestock meat have been implemented as of September 3, 2026. During 2026, inspections of 44 samples revealed that 30 were from Brazil. Two cases of Brazilian poultry contained veterinary substance residues; in one instance, the product was intercepted in cold storage before reaching the market, while in the other, the product had already been traded, prompting a trace-back and consumer notification process.
In North Macedonia, new diplomatic engagements have strengthened ties with Turkey. President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova accepted the credentials of the new Turkish Ambassador, Alper Aktas, emphasizing Turkey’s role as a strategic NATO ally and partner in regional stability. Additionally, Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi met with Ambassador Aktas to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, infrastructure, and parliamentary relations, noting Turkey’s significant investment in the Macedonian economy.
