Andoni Iraola appointed Liverpool manager ahead of summer squad overhaul

Andoni Iraola, the 43‑year‑old former Bournemouth coach, has been named the new manager of Liverpool, succeeding Arne Slot. Iraola praised the club, saying “Liverpool is Liverpool”, and will lead the team for the next two seasons.

In his first major transfers, Liverpool have signed two young defenders: Jeremy Jacquet, a 20‑year‑old centre‑back from Rennes for about €72 million, and 18‑year‑old Ifeanyi Ndukwe, a 1.98 m talent from Austria Wien who helped Austria reach the U‑17 World Cup final. Both signings are part of a broader youth‑focused rebuild as the club looks to replace departures such as Ibrahima Konaté.

Iraola arrives after a successful season at Bournemouth, where he guided the club to a sixth‑place Premier League finish and its first ever Europa League qualification. His coaching résumé includes stints at AEK Larnaca, Mirandés, Rayo Vallecano and a reputation for high‑pressing tactics.
