Andoni Iraola appointed Liverpool manager on two‑year deal

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of 43‑year‑old Spaniard Andoni Iraola as head coach on a reported two‑year contract, succeeding Arne Slot who was dismissed after a disappointing 2025‑26 season that left the club fifth in the Premier League, 25 points behind champions Arsenal. Iraola arrives from AFC Bournemouth, where he guided the Cherries to a historic sixth‑place finish and the club’s first ever qualification for European competition. A former Athletic Bilbao right‑back, he has built a reputation for high‑intensity, pressing football and for developing young talent such as Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott. His previous work with sporting director Richard Hughes at Bournemouth helped secure the move, and the pair are expected to shape Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy as the club seeks to restore its trophy‑winning status. In his introductory remarks Iraola stressed the club’s global stature and his excitement to “coach top‑level players and fight for titles”.
