Andora assault: 19-year-old hospitalized after being beaten with road sign
A 19-year-old man from San Mauro Torinese is in serious condition following a violent assault in Andora, Liguria. The victim, identified as Matteo, was attacked after intervening to protect a female friend from being harassed by two young men near a local kiosk.
The assault occurred late Friday night along the Via Aurelia. Witnesses report that after a verbal confrontation, a group of several individuals targeted the young man. He was reportedly struck in the head with a fist and then beaten with a road sign that had been uprooted and used as a club.
Matteo was transported to the Santa Corona hospital in Pietra Ligure, where he underwent emergency surgery for a depressed skull fracture and cerebral hemorrhage. While his condition is critical, he is not reported to be in life-threatening danger.
Carabinieri investigators have used surveillance footage to identify two primary suspects, both of whom reportedly have prior records for violent behavior. One suspect has been formally charged, and authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other participants in the attack.
