Andora rescue operation results in two deaths

A rescue attempt on the coast of Andora resulted in two deaths on Tuesday, August 25. A 62-year-old lifeguard from Savona, Fabrizio Valente, died after diving into the sea to assist a couple in distress.

The couple, residents of Casalgrasso, were swimming near a pier in a free beach area when strong currents pulled them away from the shore. While one lifeguard successfully rescued the woman, Valente suffered a sudden medical emergency during the attempt to save her husband, 66-year-old Luigi Fasano. Despite rescue efforts, both men passed away.

Local authorities, including the Coast Guard and Carabinieri, attended the scene. Investigations are currently underway to clarify the exact dynamics of the incident.
