Andorra prison service reports 16% gender pay gap

Data released by the Government of Andorra reveals a 16% gender pay gap within the Comella prison service. While women in the basic scale earn an average of 2,879.35 euros, men earn an average of 3,336.59 euros. This disparity, which did not exist in 2018, has emerged following restructuring of operational and seniority supplements.

Despite the pay gap, overall salaries for prison agents have increased by 33% since 2018. Specifically, first-class non-commissioned officers now earn approximately 7,003.82 euros, nearly double their 2018 salary of 3,662.32 euros.

The prison service, which currently consists of 66 active agents (58 men and 8 women), is also facing a generational shift. The government anticipates eight retirements over the next five years, including an assistant director, four intermediate commanders, and three agents. A public competition is already underway to fill several vacancies and manage these upcoming departures.
