André Bauer arrives in Belize as new U.S. Ambassador

André Bauer, a businessman and longtime political ally of Donald Trump, has arrived in Belize to begin his tenure as the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Bauer arrived at Philip Goldson International Airport on September 4, 2026, accompanied by his wife and children.

Bauer’s appointment follows a previous attempt by the Trump administration in 2020 that did not reach confirmation. Following Trump’s return to power, the White House formally submitted Bauer’s name to the U.S. Senate on April 21, 2026, where he was subsequently confirmed.

Upon arrival, Bauer stated that his background in business was intended to provide a “different perspective” to the diplomatic mission. He expressed a desire to work on bilateral relations, specifically focusing on improving safety, security, and economic opportunities, noting the importance of initiatives such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for the people of Belize.
