André Carrilho wins Grand Prize at World Press Cartoon 2026

Portuguese artist André Carrilho has won the Grand Prize at the World Press Cartoon 2026. The top honor, valued at 10,000 euros, was awarded for his editorial drawing titled ‘Gaza, para a História do Horror’, which was originally created for the Portuguese newspaper Público to mark two years of the war in Gaza.

In addition to the Grand Prize, Carrilho secured first place in the Editorial Cartoon category for the same Gaza-themed work. He also earned third place in the Caricature category for a drawing of British politician Nigel Farage, published in The New Statesman.

The announcement and award ceremony were held in Oeiras, Portugal, preceding the opening of the 19th edition of the World Press Cartoon exhibition at Palácio Anjos.
