André Janones discharged from hospital after cardiac arrhythmia

Brazilian Federal Deputy André Janones was discharged from the Hospital Vila Nova Star in São Paulo on Tuesday, October 20, following his hospitalization for cardiac arrhythmia. Janones was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the early hours of Monday, October 19, after experiencing symptoms including shortness of breath, dizziness, and chest pain following a presidential debate between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro.

Medical examinations, including an electrocardiogram and echocardiogram, ruled out damage to the heart or blood vessels. Doctors attributed the arrhythmia to a spike in stress, combined with insufficient sleep and poor nutrition during the election campaign. Janones, who coordinates the ‘Exército do Lula’ digital mobilization group, noted he had been sleeping only two to three hours per night.

Upon his release, Janones addressed the press, stating he would immediately resume his digital campaign duties. He suggested that the Lula campaign should shift focus from attacking opponents to winning over undecided voters. He also compared President Lula’s role to that of footballer Lionel Messi, noting that while the president shines, his digital team handles the tactical groundwork.
