André Mendonça Leads Minority in Brazil Supreme Court Amid Banco Master Probe

Minister André Mendonça secured the role of leader of the minority bloc in Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) with the support of justices Kassio Nunes Marques and Luiz Fux. A 3‑1 vote confirmed the decision to keep the father and cousin of businessman Daniel Vorcaro in pre‑trial detention as part of the ongoing Banco Master investigation.

The Banco Master case alleges extensive money‑laundering and illicit transfers that could involve billions of reais. It has drawn sharp criticism from other justices, including Gilmar Mendes, Alexandre de Moraes and Dias Toffoli, and is unfolding in a tense electoral environment, heightening friction among Brazil's three branches of government.
