André Ventura addresses abortion debate and parliamentary inquiry

André Ventura, leader of the Chega party, has criticized former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho for speaking publicly at a colloquium regarding abortion. Ventura argued that the right must be strategic with its topics, suggesting that discussing abortion during a period of economic crisis may inadvertently benefit the left, as citizens are currently more focused on the cost of living, minimum wage, and retirement ages.

Separately, Ventura has expressed his absolute availability to be heard by the parliamentary inquiry commission investigating Luís Neves’s tenure at the Polícia Judiciária. This follows a request from the Livre party, which cited Ventura’s claims of possessing relevant documents. While Ventura expressed a willingness to testify to ensure no one is above the law, the Chega party noted that his dual role as a party leader and a potential witness may require coordination with other parties to ensure the commission's independence and integrity.
