André Ventura to testify regarding alleged parliamentary office vandalism

The Portuguese Parliament's Transparency and Statute of Deputies Commission has issued a report authorizing Chega leader André Ventura and deputies Francisco Gomes and Paulo Seco to testify in writing regarding the alleged vandalism of Ventura's parliamentary office. The investigation, which began following an incident in late July, is being conducted by the Judicial Police's National Counter-Terrorism Unit.

André Ventura has rejected accusations from political opponents that the incident was staged, calling such claims “nonsense.” He has expressed a willingness to testify both in person and in writing to ensure the investigation reaches a swift conclusion to prevent a culture of political violence and impunity.

In response to Ventura's insinuations that members of the PSD or Livre parties might be involved, Rui Tavares, a Member of Parliament for Livre, has strongly denied the allegations. Tavares characterized Ventura's claims as an attempt to grab attention and warned that Livre may pursue legal action if the party is unfairly dragged into the investigation.
