André Ventura leads in Portuguese leadership polls

Recent polling data from Intercampus indicates a shift in Portuguese political preferences. André Ventura, leader of the Chega party, has emerged as the preferred candidate for Prime Minister among 28.4% of respondents. He leads a closely contested group that includes current Prime Minister Luís Montenegro at 25.8% and José Luís Carneiro at 25.6%.

While Ventura leads in personal preference, the party-level barometer shows a technical tie between the major political forces. The Socialist Party (PS) leads with 24.6%, followed by Chega at 21.4% and the Democratic Alliance (AD) at 21.0%.

Commentators have also noted Ventura's rhetorical strategies during political discourse. Analyst Ricardo Araújo Pereira has observed that the Chega leader frequently employs techniques to avoid direct answers to uncomfortable questions regarding economic policies, such as VAT reductions on fuel and food, by redirecting the focus to political opponents.
