André Ventura reelected as Chega president with 98% of votes
André Ventura has been reelected as the president of the Portuguese political party Chega, securing 98% of the votes in direct elections held on October 31, 2026. Ventura, the party's founder and a former PSD member, was the sole candidate for the leadership position.
According to a party statement signed by João Lopes Aleixo, the vote distribution included 1.5% blank votes and 0.5% null votes. While the total number of voters and the participation rate were not disclosed, the election results precede the party's 7th National Convention, scheduled to take place in Entroncamento between November 20 and 22.
Ventura has led Chega since its inception in 2019, consistently winning leadership elections with over 94% support. The party has seen significant growth in the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic, rising from a single deputy in 2019 to becoming the second largest parliamentary group with 60 deputies following the 2025 legislative elections.
