André Villas-Boas discusses FC Porto presidency and awards

André Villas-Boas, the president of FC Porto, recently attended the Portugal Football Globes gala, where the club was honored with a sports merit award. During the event, several other figures in Portuguese football were recognized, including Jorge Jesus with the Globe Prestígio and various players and coaches for career and merit awards.

In a recent interview, Villas-Boas discussed his transition from football manager to club president. He noted that the ambition to lead FC Porto began during his time coaching Zenit in Russia. Having defeated Pinto da Costa in the 2024 elections, Villas-Boas stated his goal is to serve the institution and leave it in a better state than he found it.

Villas-Boas also clarified that he has no intention of returning to coaching, having established a clear separation between his former role on the sidelines and his current administrative responsibilities. Additionally, he addressed the increasing difficulty for Portuguese clubs to compete with the English Premier League in recruiting young talent.
