Andrada Mining secures N$98 million for Uis tin mine expansion

Andrada Mining has secured 98 million Namibian dollars ($6 million) in loans to expand tin concentrate production at its Uis mine. The financing is being provided through two 10-year loan facilities of 49 million Namibian dollars each from the Development Bank of Namibia and Bank Windhoek.

The funds will be used to implement an ore-sorting circuit, utilizing sensors to separate high-grade ore from barren material. This technology is intended to improve processing efficiency and increase annual concentrate production to between 2,500 and 3,000 metric tons, up from approximately 1,036 tons of contained tin in the previous financial year.

While the expansion supports Namibia’s mining output and tax revenues, it highlights a gap in domestic value addition. Despite government goals to increase the share of locally processed mining exports to 57% by 2030, the additional tin concentrate from the Uis project is destined for smelting in Thailand due to a lack of local processing scale.
