Andrade El Idolo discusses departure from AEW to WWE

Professional wrestler Andrade El Idolo has shared the reasoning behind his 2023 departure from All Elite Wrestling (AEW) to join WWE. During an interview on the AEW program ‘Close Up’ with Renee Paquette, the current AEW National Champion explained that his decision was driven by personal circumstances following the expiration of his contract.

Andrade stated that he had to choose between his professional career and his personal life at the time. He noted that he maintained a positive relationship with AEW owner Tony Khan, informing him directly of his decision to move on.

After completing a run with WWE in 2025, Andrade returned to AEW in October 2025. Following a period of legal resolution regarding contract concerns that had briefly paused his television appearances, he was officially reinstated in January 2026. Andrade expressed a desire to repay the opportunity provided by Khan through his in-ring performances and commitment to the company.
