Andre Drummond joins New York Knicks as Mitchell Robinson replacement

The New York Knicks have signed veteran center Andre Drummond to a one-season, $3.9 million contract to serve as a backup to starter Karl-Anthony Towns. Drummond enters the roster following the departure of Mitchell Robinson, tasked with providing rim protection and rebounding.

During Media Day, team members expressed optimism regarding Drummond’s impact. Head coach Mike Brown noted that the veteran appeared quicker and more explosive than initially expected. Captain Jalen Brunson described Drummond as a “big key to this team,” while Karl-Anthony Towns praised him as “one of the best rebounders of our generation.”

While Drummond brings significant rebounding potential—averaging 8.4 rebounds in 19.5 minutes last season with Philadelphia—questions remain regarding his ability to handle defensive assignments and his overall availability. The team will look to see how his presence stabilizes the defense when the starting unit rests.
