Andre Ruddock murder trial: Witness recounts shooting by late pastor

During the Home Circuit Court trial of Andre Ruddock, a witness provided harrowing testimony regarding the October 17, 2021, incident at Pathways International Restoration Ministries. The witness, a junior minister in training, testified that the late church leader, Dr. Kevin Smith, allegedly shot him twice in the back after seizing a firearm from a police officer on the premises.

The witness described a chaotic scene where Smith reportedly declared, “You are immortal; you cannot die,” while interacting with his wounds. Testimony also detailed Smith’s high standing among followers, who addressed him as “Prophet of the Nation,” “Daddy,” or “Father.”

Ruddock is on trial for the murder of 39-year-old Taneka Gardner, whose throat was allegedly cut during a sacrificial-type ritual following instructions from Smith. The witness claimed Ruddock carried out the killing after other members hesitated. Smith died in a motor vehicle accident a week after the church incident while being transported to face criminal charges.
