Andrea Abodi calls for football reform following Malagò appointment

Italian Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, has called for cooperation and reform within the Italian football system following the appointment of Giovanni Malagò as commissioner of the FIGC. Speaking at the Mondadori Academy Forum Orienta, Abodi emphasized that there are ‘no winners or losers’ in the recent developments and urged all parties to sit at a table to address necessary issues.

The appointment follows a period of controversy involving Malagò’s mandate, including issues related to ‘pantouflage’ and registration cases. Abodi noted that football needs to undergo self-criticism and reform. He also dismissed claims of political interference in the private association, stating that the process respects the will of the assembly.

Malagò is expected to be re-elected on December 14 at the Hilton in Fiumicino, and the government has expressed a commitment to working with him immediately to benefit the sporting system.
