Andrea Abreu releases second novel ‘Pajaritos preñados’
Spanish author Andrea Abreu has released her second novel, ‘Pajaritos preñados’, published by Anagrama, following the significant success of her debut, ‘Panza de burro’. After a six-year hiatus to avoid the pressures of constant publishing, Abreu returns with a longer work that explores the lexicon and reality of northern Tenerife.
The novel centers on Cathaysa, a teenager navigating a year of intense events, and her surroundings, including her father, a scrap metal worker known as ‘el Tiznado’. The narrative blends themes of precariousness, fantasy, and local identity, utilizing regional linguistic nuances. The title itself is derived from an expression used by Abreu’s grandfather, reflecting a sense of being a dreamer or having one's head in the clouds.
